Three gripping tales of betrayal are brought to life by Edward Hardwicke in this delightful reading of three Sherlock Holmes short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This collection includes the unabridged readings of:
A Scandal in Bohemia: In this tale Holmes meets the one woman who had the chance to be the love of his life, a woman whose intelligence almost rivals his own, the beautiful Irene Adler. Can Adler keep Holmes from discovering her secret?
Silver Blaze: This tale revolves around the murder of a horse trainer, a missing horse, and a most unusual knife that complicates Holmes's efforts to solve the case.
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches: In this story, Violet Hunter seeks Holmes's advice as to whether or not she should accept a position as governess, a position that comes with some strange strings attached. After taking the job, it is not long until Hunter is in need of Holmes's aid. Can Holmes and Dr. Watson discover the secret of the house known as the Copper Beeches, and for what nefarious purposes this young lady is being used for?
Hardwicke, the narrator of these stories was a perfect choice. The character of Doctor Watson accompanied Holmes on most of his adventures and when Doyle wrote the Sherlock Holmes stories, he wrote them from the perspective of Dr. Watson, Sherlock's erstwhile companion. Likewise, Hardwicke played Dr. Watson on PBS television's Mystery! series. He is very familiar with the role of Dr. Watson, and brings the same energy and spirited acting that were the hallmarks of his role on the tv show, to the readings of these stories.
Sherlock Holmes: Three Tales of Betrayal is a wonderful addition to the surfeit of Sherlock Holmes tales available in audio formats. This is a must listen to set for all fans of Sherlock Holmes, even if you've already read these tales or heard them read by other readers. Hardwicke's renditions of these timeless tales is a pleasure to listen to and you'll not be disappointed in this set!
