Looking for a challenging means of testing your knowledge of the Bible? Do you want a 'game' that the whole family can play - over and over and over again? Well look no further. Davka's Bible Quiz offers over 4,000 questions from the Tanach divided into six different question categories:

Kings & Princes
Places & Cities
Women in the Bible
Prophets & Miracles
Animals & Plants
Wars & Battles

You can take the quiz in Hebrew or English, and up to five people can play at once. In addition, there are three levels of play: beginner, advanced, and scholar.

Not only will the Bible Quiz, test you knowledge of the Tanach (Old Testament), but it is also a fantastic learning tool. Each question is annotated with the related Biblical references that explains the answer to the question proffered. This enables you to look up the given reference should you desire to study the given topic in more detail.

This CD only plays on Windows PC's. To play this 'game', you must first install the CD-ROM. This is a simple process. Just insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive. Then click your Windows start button, and then on the run button. A small window will appear into which you type the letter of you CD drive and :\setup. For example, if your CD drive is named "e", you would type, e:\setup. Hit ok, and the program will now walk you through the rest of the installation process.

Detailed instructions regarding the set up and installation can be found in the manual that accompanies the Bible Quiz. This manual is printed in both Hebrew and English. If you find that the Hebrew text is gibberish, you will find details on how to correct this problem, in the manual. Also to be found in the manual are instructions on how to play the quiz, as well as instructions on how to install the free Gustave Dore Bible screen saver that comes with the Bible Quiz.

Before you begin to play the Bible Quiz, you will be offered the opportunity to personalize your game play. You can list your name, select the subject area you want to be quizzed on, and the level of play you want to begin with. You can also change how many questions will be asked in each round. In addition, you can also specify which sections of the Tanach you want your questions to come from - the Torah, Prophets, Writings, or from all three. You can also select a champion. Your choices are: David, Jacob, Jonah, Moses, or Elijah. If you choose a champion, and enable the animation function, you will get to see your champion fight with your opponent during each round. If you select the correct answer, your champion wins the fight, if not, he loses!

This little animated film is interesting, but I found that it grew tiresome after awhile - which is not a problem as it can be easily turned off with one click by going to the change setting page that you see every time you start a game. Young players, however, may find that 'fighting' along side of their champion to be a real motivational tool when it comes to studying for the Quiz.

The actual quiz is very easy to navigate. In each round, you are presented with a page that shows a question and four possible answers. You simply click on the answer you think is right. If you are correct, a voice will say correct, if not the voice will say wrong, and the correct answer will appear on the screen. In either case, the quotation from the Bible that the answer come from will appear at the bottom of the screen, along with the biblical reference. Here is a sample question from the quiz:

This man was the head of King Saul's army. What was his name?
You are offered four choices:
A. Jonathan
B. David
C. Abner
D. Pikol

After you select your answer the following the quotation containing the answer will appear:

"And the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam, the daughter of Ahimaaz; and the name of the Captain of his army was Abner, the son of Ner, Saul's uncle."

Also displayed is the associated biblical reference, in this case I Samuel 14:50.

Throughout the game, a scoreboard is displayed with the name, or names, of the people playing the current game. Next to each name is displayed the number of correct answers, as well as percentage score based on correct answers.

When playing with multiple players, each player get to select and personalized their own game parameters and level of difficulty. This makes the Bible Quiz very 'family' friendly. For example, someone on the beginner level can play against someone on the scholar level - during the same game. This allows each player to play at the skill level that best suits them, and which will be the most challenging for them - without being too hard. As well, each player can select different subject and division categories, or they can all play the same game.

The Bible Quiz is a wonderfully challenging game. The questions are randomly generated, so it is impossible to memorize the answers, hence you'll just have to learn the material in order to beat your opponents! Best of all, the Quiz offers such a wide range of questions, and so many options to customize the game play, that each game is novel and invigorating. Not only is this a fun and challenging game to play, but it will also encourage you to 'hit the books' in order to fill in any gaps that might exist in your knowledge base so that you can go back and 'beat the game'.

I highly recommend the Bible Quiz for players of all ages!
