Dale Earnhardt is a NASCAR legend, and his son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. is quickly following in his father's footsteps as a star of the NASCAR circuit. This audiobook chronicles Dale Junior's rookie year as a race car driver, and he takes you along with him as he relives this memorable year - including all its joys and its sorrows. Dale Junior also touches upon the death of his father during the Dayton 500 race in 2001, and the effect that it had on him - and how he felt the first time he raced again, after his father's death.
Dale Juniors' narrative has a down-to-earth, folksy style that sounds as if Dale Junior is talking directly to you. He is honest, and open with his feelings, and he also lets you in on some of the secrets of the racing world. Not only does this book give you a race by race play of that year, but it also gives you a look at what goes on in preparing for a race, how he plans and carries out his race strategies, and how he relaxes when he is not in the driver's seat.
This audiobook is read by David A. Thomas, Jr. whose voice is a perfect match for this book. Deep, clear, and vibrant, he sounds the way I would expect Dale Junior to sound. This audiobook is also spiced up with some background 'car racing' sound effects and some short, rock and rollish type, music interludes. Even if you don't like car races, you will find yourself enthralled with this story. But, if you are a race fan - this is a must read!
