Strap on your seatbelt and prepare for another nonstop action adventure tale in the form of The Bourne Sanction. This is the sixth book in Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne series, and the third one written by Eric Van Lustbader. (Ludlum wrote the first three books in the series, after which Lustbader took over authorship, writing in Ludlum's style and using the same story line and characters that Ludlum developed for the series.)
In this installment of the series, Bourne is teaching linguistics at Georgetown University under the name David Webb. An adrenalin junkie of the first degree, Bourne is finding life as an academic a bit on the boring side. As such, he is not too upset when his tranquil life is disrupted by the Black Legion, a terrorist group planning to attack the United States. When a former student is killed by the terrorist, Bourne travels to Europe to track them down. Unbeknownst to him, he is also the target of a manhunt. There Bourne finds himself on the run from members of the National Security Agency (NSA) who are bent upon killing him, while at the same time he is bent upon tracking down and killing or capturing the leader of the Black Legion.
In true Ludlum style, this is a story full of chases, explosions, red-herrings, heart-stopping twists, large dollops of international espionage and intrigue, and a host of diverse characters who all want Bourne dead. In this novel, Lustbader also throws in a conspiracy in the hallowed halls of the CIA and a Muslim terrorist group that had ties to the Nazi SS. Throughout it all, Lustbader does an excellent job of duplicating Ludlum's writing style and he keeps Bourne constantly on the move and constantly in danger.
