Great Classic Science Fiction is an audio collection consisting of eight delectable science fiction stories on CD. This collection includes:
  1. The Door in the Wall, written by H. G. Wells, and read by Simon Vance.
  2. All Cats are Gray, written by Andre Norton, and read by Barbara Rosenblat.
  3. A Martian Odyssey, written by Stanley G. Weinbaum, and read by Nick Sullivan.
  4. Victory, written by Lester del Rey, and read by Robert Fass.
  5. The Moon is Green, written by Fritz Leiber, and read by Katherine Kellgren
  6. The Winds of Time, written by James H. Schmitz, and read by Stephen R. Thorne.
  7. The Defenders, written by Philip K. Dick, and read by Greg Itzin.
  8. Missing Link, written by Frank Herbert, and read by Scott Brick.
This is a fine collection of short stories by some of the most popular science fiction writers. These are not classic stories in the sense that they are all old. Rather they are classic in the sense that they are stories that will withstand the test of time and they are stories that transcend generational boundaries. They also represent a nice selection of sub genres within the field of science fiction writing. You not only have stories involving space travel and visits to other worlds, but also stories that imagine what life on earth might be like in a post-apocalyptic world and one where wars are fought by robots.

While you are probably familiar with all these writers (if you are a science fiction fan), you may not be familiar with all of these stories. Several were totally new to me, and I've been reading these types of stories for more decades than I'd like to contemplate! The readers or narrators of these stories do an excellent job of translating the stories to an audio medium, and it was great fun listening to the entire lot. Best of all, unlike audio editions of novels, these short stories are perfect for times when you want to listen to a little entertainment but don't want to commit yourself to listing to twenty or thirty hours of dialog. The stories in this collection of are of various lengths, with the entire collection taking a bit under eight hours to listen to it in its entirety - so no major time commitment is required to enjoy this must-have collection of science fiction stories.
