Every indomitable detective needs an indomitable secretary, and for Hercule Poirot, that secretary is Miss Felicity Lemon. She is the model of perfection, so Poirot is amazed when he discovers that Miss Lemon has started to make typing mistakes. As events transpire, it turns out that Miss Lemon has a sister, who has a problem. Her sister, Mrs. Hubbard runs a youth hostel and things have begun to go missing, including a stethoscope, some chocolates, and a ring. This is not the type of case that Poirot would normally take, but to ease Miss Lemon's minds, and to get his own life back in order, Poirot sets out to find the kleptomaniac who is haunting the hostel. In true Agatha Christie style, things are not what they appear and this minor case of petty thievery soon turns into murder.

Hickory Dickory Dock is a typical Hercule Poirot mystery. He must use his 'little grey cells' to solve the crime, and he does so with style. This story has more than its normal share of red herrings - and college students of every ilk! It ends with a nice twist, and Christie keeps you guessing until the end about what is really going on. As you would expect, the story is well plotted and the descriptions are exquisite. The college kids that come out of the woodwork in this book are an international lot, and they present an interesting backdrop to the story.

This audio edition of Hickory Dickory Dock is part of the Audio Editions Mystery Masters series of unabridged recordings of celebrated mysteries. Hickory Dickory Dock is available in both cassette and CD formats. This audiobook is impeccably read by Hugh Fraser who plays Captain Hastings in the PBS-TV Mystery! series' productions of Agatha Christie's Poirot mysteries.
