Scratch Kitten rides again in Scratch Kitten Goes to Sea, a charming children's tale about a kitten who goes to sea and has many adventures as he works to make a name for himself as a ship's cat. However, Scratch doesn't get his job the honest way. Instead he stows away on the Silk'n'Spice, a tall-rigged vessel bound for the South Seas. Scratch hopes that once he proves his worth, the sailors will forgive him for being a stow-a-way. Scratch has many hair-raising adventures as he learns all about living and working on a ship. To earn his keep, Scratch starts working for Peg-leg, the ornery ship's cook. When a mouse turns up in the Captain's stew, Scratch learns that sailors are not a very forgiving lot, and Scratch and Peg-leg are set adrift in a small dinghy as punishment. Will they ever reach dry land? Or will they be rescued by a friendly ship, or by pirates? Oh, no, to find out you'll have to read the next book in this continuing series!!

Written by Jessica Green, Scratch Kitten Goes to Sea is a fun book to read aloud, and a great read alone book for young readers. It is also filled with whimsical illustrations by Mitch Vane that greatly enhance the story. Available in large print from Read How You Want, this edition of Scratch Kitten Goes to Sea will prove a boon to parents and grandparents who prefer large print books. As well, the larger print size will aid new reader's comprehension and letter identification skills. This engaging story will also encourage new readers to keep reading. As well, a glossary of nautical terms is also included, alowing readers to expand their vocabulary. The only drawback to this otherwise great book is that the story leaves you hanging at the end, and you have to get your hands on the next volume in the series in order to find out what happens to Scratch and Peg-leg! However, it does give readers a chance to make up their own ending if they cannot wait to read the next installment in the thrilling adventures of Scratch Kitten. But no real worries, the next book in the series, Scratch Kitten On The Pirates Shoulder is already out in large print!
