Still Summer is an exciting new novel by Jacquelyn Mitchard. It is the story of three friends, who were known in High School as The Godmothers. Unlike so many, the high school friendship of Olivia, Tracy, and Holly survived the years, however they have been separated by distance for far too long. To rectify this situation, the widowed Olivia decides to reunite the group for a relaxing and rejuvenating cruise on the Caribbean in a luxury sailboat. As events unfold, Holly is unable to join the cruise, so Tracy fatefully decides to bring along her grown daughter, Cammie, to fill Holly's place. The ship's manifest is rounded out by the ship's crew, which consists of two attractive and attentive men.
What should have been an idyllic summer soon turns into a hellish journey as a series of catastrophic events unfold that necessitate a life-or-death struggle against nature, sharks, their own frailties, and modern-day pirates!
Still Summer is a mesmerizing book about ordinary women faced with decidedly extraordinary situations. How they survive, if they do, is the heart of this story, and one that will keep you glued to the story until it reaches its climatic end. This book is well suited for the audio format, and in this case is read by Susan Ericksen, an award winning narrator and actress. Ericksen not only brings this story to life, but also gives a unique voice to each woman involved in the tale.
Gut-wrenching, tender, and unforgettable, Still Summer is a must for not only Mitchard fans, but also for anyone seeking an exciting and insightful read full of unforgettable and richly detailed characters and a horrifying plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
