The Vegan Lunch Box Around the World is a unique cookbook that presents 125 quick and easy to prepare lunches that will delight both kids and adults alike. All the recipes in this cookbook are meat-free, egg-free, and dairy-free and throughout you will find a variety of icons that indicate which recipes are kid-friendly and those that are especially quick and easy. As well, at the end of each recipe the author, Jennifer McCann, has included allergy related information about each recipe, such as which are nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free, wheat-free, and which contain common allergens such as soy or nuts.

Jennifer McCann is the author of the well known Vegan Lunch Box blog and the Vegan Lunch Box cookbook, which unfortunately, is not yet available in large print. In this new volume, Vegan Lunch Box Around the World, McCann presents a variety of recipes from around the world. Within the pages of this 'tasty' cookbook, you'll find recipes from throughout North, South, and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa, Asia, Australia, Japan, and more.

Beginning at the beginning, this cookbook explains how to pack a lunch - taking into consideration safety concerns, the protection of the foodstuffs so they do not leak or get crushed, and the aesthetics of meals that are carried around in a bag or box. From there, McCann moves on to provide a region by region menu list along with information about the relevant cuisines. Most important, each of these menus represents a complete, well-balanced meal. Building upon this foundation, McCann moves onto the actual recipes.

The recipes in this cookbook are organized into standard categories such as garnishes, sandwiches and wraps, soups and stews, bean sides, vegetable sides, breads and muffins, desserts, and beverages. Each recipe begins with a bit of information about the dish, followed by a notation of how many servings the dish makes, the required ingredients, and a step by step guide on how to prepare each dish, followed by any related allergen information.

Throughout, I found that these dishes were indeed easy and quick to prepare, and the ingredients required were fairly easy to come by if you happen to have access to a grocery store with a well-stocked international section. If not, most of the exotic items used in this cookbook can be obtained via mail-order. The only drawback to this otherwise excellent cookbook is that McCann uses a lot of pre prepared ingredients such as canned beans, canned tomato sauce, and canned roasted peppers. The use of such items is understandable if you are in a hurry, but I would have liked for McCann to provide guidance on how to make such items from scratch, should you happen to have the time. This is a minor complaint, and one that can easily be overlooked!

Vegan, Vegetarian, or Carnivore, you are sure to find a plethora of recipes in this collection that will delight your palate. In addition, while lunch boxes are most often associated with school children, these recipes and meal will serve adults equally well and are sure to invoke admiration from fellow workers when they see the colorful and aromatic dishes that you are bringing from home. These dishes also work well for use as snacks, and can even be used for sit down, at home meals. Vegan Lunch Box Around the World cookbook will make a great addition to any cook's library.

To wet your appetite, here is a list of a few of the many recipes that you'll find in this unique cookbook: Vegan Lunch Box Around the World is available from Read How You Want, an on-demand publisher that makes books available in a variety of formats including Braille, DAISY, and five different large print formats. This range of formats makes this, and other books, available not only to visually impaired individuals, but also anyone with a reading or physical disability that makes reading standard print books difficult.
