How do people not only manage to survive, but thrive in desert environments? What would you do if you found yourself lost in a desert? After reading Desert Survival, you'll not only learn how people and various types of plants and animals survive in the deserts of the world, but you'll also discover some handy survival tips that will help you should you ever find yourself in a desert environment.

Desert Survival is one of the volumes in the Extreme Habitats series that includes volumes on Mountain, Ocean, and Polar Region survival. In this volume children learn such intriguing facts as: not all deserts are hot, how fast sand dunes can move, why Bedouins wear headcloths, how long a camel can go without drinking any water, how cacti store water, and where the world's deserts are. This book was written by Jim Pipe in consultation with Dr. Greg Aplet of The Wilderness Society.

Filled with scientific facts and geographical information, Desert Survival will fascinate both budding scientist and young armchair travelers. Aimed at elementary aged students, this book is well suited for use in a classroom setting as well as for pleasure reading. The text primarily consists of facts highlighted by bullet points which are interspersed with brief expository paragraphs. The text is generously illustrated. A glossary and resources for further study are also provided. Desert Survival is a must have book for all home and school libraries that are frequented by curious youngsters.

Extreme Habitats: Desert Survival is available from Read How You Want, an on-demand publisher that makes books available in a variety of formats including Braille, DAISY, and five different large print formats. This range of formats makes this, and other books, available not only to visually impaired individuals, but also anyone with a reading or physical disability that makes reading standard print books difficult.
