Trapped in a stress-filled, dead-end secretarial job she did not enjoy, Julie Powell decided to take control of her life my making every one of the recipes contained in Julia Child's famed, Mastering the Art of French Cooking cookbook. In all, the Julia Child's book contains 524 recipes that range from the quick and easy, to dishes that take hours, if not days to prepare properly. Julie Powell set for herself the task of making every single one of these recipes, all within the span of one year. In her book, Julie & Julia, Julie Powell chronicles her year of cooking and how it changed her life forever.

Memorable, and at times downright raw, Julie Powell allows readers, and listeners, to see all aspects of her life from the sublime to the gritty. At times she comes across as coarse, and at other times she is introspective - but at all times she is honest, and she approaches even the most difficult aspects of her life with humor. Powell's journey is a sort of grown up coming-of-age story, and it is easy to see why it was selected to be made into film. The film version of Julie & Julia stars Amy Adams as Julie, and Meryl Streep as Julia. It was directed by Nora Ephron.

This audio edition of Julie & Julia is read by the author, and this edition includes a 'special conversation' with the author that provides you with more insights into her life and what she has been doing since the book was published. Please keep in mind that this book is not a cookbook. It is a memoir, pure and simple, and it is one that may well encourage you to strike out on your own personal voyage of discovery.
