Juliet Dove, Queen of Love is an exciting addition to Bruce Coville's beloved Magic Shop series. This installment is dedicated to the adventures, and misadventures, of a young lady named Juliet Dove. Shy, smart, and with an unexpect dark side, Juliet's life turns topsy-turvy when she gets an amulet from Mr. Elives' Magic Shop. The amulet has a long and tragic history. A token of Eris (the Greek goddess of Discord), the amulet once belonged to Helen of Troy. Before she knows what is happening she finds herself the center of attention of a host of lovesick boys!
While Juliet might not understand why she is suddenly the love interest of so many young boys, she knows one thing for certain - she has to find a way to turn their focus away from her, and find a way to take off the amulet. A task that is harder than one would imagine for once Juliet put it on, it became unremovable. Jerome and Roxanne, two talking rats, come to her rescue as they try their best to help her extricate herself from her unusual predicament. Unfortunately, things only go from bad to worse when Juliet discovers that she has become enmeshed in a mythical story of truly epic proportions - with only one way out. Knowing how to get out of the story is only part of the challenge - the other part is finding the courage to do what has to be done to get out! In the process she sets out to correct an ancient wrong, and to reunite Cupid and Psyche.
Juliet Dove is an amazing heroine that will delight both male and female audiences with her tenacity and intelligence. Her story is exciting, funny, and perilous and it is a perfect introduction to the Magic Shop series for those unfamiliar with it, and an excellent addition for those who have long been fans of Coville's creativity and ability to turn timid children into heroes.
