The Full Cast Audio production of Merian C. Cooper's King Kong is an unforgettable unabridged recording of the book written by Joe DeVito and Brad Strickland. Which in turn, was based upon the 1932 film novelization of the 1933 theatrical version of King Kong, directed by Merian C. Cooper and written by Cooper along with the prolific British mystery writer, Edgar Wallace. DeVito and Strickland's book is a fast paced version of the story line dictated by the movie version of King Kong, with additional material added to expound upon the scientific basis of the story and to update the story for today's audience.

As with the movie, and the DeVito and Strickland book, this story is set in the 1930's and it follows the adventures of a diverse group of adventurers, including the filmmaker Carl Denham, ship's first mate Jack Driscoll, and the lovely Ann Darrow. This group travels to the mysterious Skull Island where they find unfriendly natives and more excitement than they ever expected. Darrow, a blond beauty, is along on the voyage because she has been hired by Denham to star in a film he plans to make on the mysterious island. In addition, as you might expect, a love interest in ignited between Darrow and Driscoll. When Darrow is captured by the natives, Denham and Driscoll enter the forbidding depths of the island to search of her. Along the way they battle not only the natives, but also dinosaurs! In the process of trying to rescue Darrow they make the most momentous discovery of the trip - Kong. An intelligent and gargantuan ape, Kong is captured by the men and brought back to New York City where he is put on display. As events play out, this was not the wisest course of action. One of the most intriguing aspects of this story is the love story that develops between Darrow and Kong.

The Full Cast Audio production of this classic fantasy - drama, is performed by a full cast of actors and provides listeners with a complete, heart-pounding, theatrical experience, sans the visuals. It includes period sounds and an original musical score by Todd Hobin. This production presents and unabridged recitation of DeVito and Strickland's book, with the exception that some of the "he said" and "she said" attributives have been eliminated.

This production of King Kong will delight not only fans of adventure noir stories, but it also provides a solid literary foundation for anyone watching the new Peter Jackson remake of King Kong and for those who wish to more fully appreciate the true essence of the Kong story.
