One aspect of Holocaust studies that is often overlooked is the Nazi's relationship with the Islamic Arab world, and their plans to exterminate Jews throughout the middle east. In Nazi Palestine: The Plans for the Extermination of the Jews in Palestine, Klaus-Michael Mallman and Martin Cüppers focus on the Nazi's plans to exterminate the Jews in Palestine, primarily using Einstakommando and Sicherheitsdienst units attached to the Afrika Korps, with the assistance of the Arab collaborators and the blessing of Haj Amin el-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem.

Covering the period from 1933-1945, Nazi Palestine is an eye-opening history of the Yishuv during World War II and the threat that hung over the Jews of Palestine during this turbulent period. This book details not only the Nazi's plans for the Jews of the middle east and the German's Arab policies, but also Arab antisemitism, Arab support for National Socialism, the Nazi war effort in Africa and how their failure there helped to save the Yishuv (the Jewish community in the land of Israel prior to the establishment of the modern state of Israel).

Mallmann is the Director of the Research Center, University of Ludwigsburg and Professor of History at the University of Stuttgart and Cüppers is the Scientific Assistant at the Research Center in Ludwigsburg. Both authors have previously written other books related to the Holocaust. Far reaching and detailed, this book was originally written in German and was translated into English by Krista Smith. It was published in association with the Unite States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and its original German title was Halbmond und Hakenkreuz: das Dritte Reich, die Araber und Palästina. Klaus-Michael Mallman and Martin Cüppers have written an engrossing, and authoritative account that is essential reading for anyone interested in Holocaust studies, Middle East History, or the History of World War II. It is also an ideal text for use in college level courses. The text is fully footnoted, and includes a list of abbreviations used, a list of archival sources, and an indispensable bibliography on the subject.

Within the scope of this book, the authors place the Nazi's exterminations plans for the Jews of Palestine within the context of the greater Holocaust. They also examine the ideological, political, and religious factors that went into these plans, both from the viewpoint of the Nazis as well as from that of their Arab supporters. The authors also examine the war and the Holocaust from the viewpoint of the members of the Yishuv. By examining these varied viewpoints and the events and designs of the Nazi extermination plans, the authors also provide insights into the ongoing Israeli-Arab conflict, and its origins. In this ground breaking and breathtaking book, the authors make use of long available information, as well as new records recently uncovered in a variety of sources including those in Germany and Israel, Nazi Palestine. It is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of the Holocaust and how Arab Nationalism has contributed to Arab animosities toward Israel.
