After being horrifically disfigured during an assult, Eve Wilson retreated into the virtual world of the Internet, where she could be, and look like, anyone she wanted. As time past, she learned to deal with both her physical and emotional scars and slowly reentered the world of reality, and real people, embarking upon a career to help people overcome the same types of issues that she had to learn to deal with on her own. However, the real world is not all it is cracked up to be and Eve soon finds herself involved with a murder, one that has connections with both the real world and the virtual world that she inhabited for so long.

In this pulse-pounding, thriller, Eve soon finds herself working with Homicide detective Noah Webster to help solve what quickly becomes a string of murders. To get to the heart of the matter, Webster will need to rely upon Eve's intimate knowledge of the Internet to catch a killer, who appears to be stalking his victims via an online role-playing game.

As the investigation progresses, we learn that Webster has a few dark secrets of his own lurking about his closet, and Eve tries to help him deal with these secrets and the scars they have left upon his psyche.

Like many writers, Karen Rose had another career before becoming a best-selling author. In this case, Rose started her writing career by first becoming a Chemical Engineer. Moving into her writing career, Rose brought along her detailed oriented and scientific mind set, which has enabled her to craft detailed and complex story lines that will grab your interest from the very first page and not let you go until you reluctantly close the back cover of the book, or take the final CD out of your CD player.
