Mr Badger works at the Boubles Grand Hotel. Among his many duties, he is also the Manager of Special Guest. While every guest is special at the Boubles Grand Hotel, some required extra attention to help keep them away from nosy reporters or from adoring fans, because they happen to be a member of the royalty or a celebrity such as a famous actor. To maintain their privacy, these 'special guests' can be quite demanding, and it is Mr Badger's job to make sure that they have a pleasant stay at the hotel.

The delightful children's book, Mr Badger and the Difficult Duchess, by Leigh Hobbs follows the adventures of Mr Badger has he tries to deal with one of his special guests. In this case, the individual is the Duchess de la Dodo, and she causes Mr Badger a lot of trouble, in part because the Duchess is extremely tall, so tall in fact that she doesn't even fit in the elevator and her hair keeps getting caught in the hotel's chandeliers! To complicate Mr Badger's life, when the Duchess arrives, he is in the process ensuring that everything is ready for the Philatelic Society Annual Dinner, to which, or course, the Duchess simply must attend.

Through it all, he maintains his sense of humor and his dignity, and with the aid of his assistant, Miss Pims they manage to make everyone happy. Yet at the same time, there is more to the Duchess than first appears, and Mr Badger finds that he has a bit of mystery on his hand, which he solves with panache.

Mr Badger and the Difficult Duchess is a fun book to read that young readers are sure to enjoy. Hobbs is both the author and the illustrator of this book, and the story is enhanced by the charming pen and ink drawings that bring the story's characters to life. This is the third book in Hobbs' Mr Badger series, featuring the indomitable Mr Badger, who just happens to be a badger. The book is geared to readers ages 6-11, but will work as well as a bedtime story book for non-readers and as an engaging book for older, reluctant readers.

Mr Badger and the Difficult Duchess is available from Read How You Want, an on-demand publisher that makes books available in a variety of formats including Braille, DAISY, and five different large print formats. This range of formats makes this, and other books, available not only to visually impaired individuals, but also anyone with a reading or physical disability that makes reading standard print books difficult.
