The Carson Lighted Magnifold Magnifier is an ingenious little magnifier with a folding handle that makes it easy to store and easy to carry. This magnifier comes with a rectangular shaped 2X powered lens that provides a clear, wide viewing area of approximately 4.5" by 2.25". The magnifier itself is very lightweight, and the folding handle locks into six different positions allowing you to select the best handle angle for your needs and comfort. Additionally, this magnifier features two built-in LED lights that amply illuminate whatever you happen to be looking at.

This magnifier has several features that set it above your average hand-held magnifier. Firstly, it is extremely light (just shy of 4.5 ounces) and comfortable to hold for long periods. Secondly, being rectangular in shape instead of round, makes it ideal for reading as it is a bit wider than most round magnifiers, allowing you to view a larger section of a line of text at one time. Thirdly, this magnifier comes with a very nice light that is well angled to shine directly toward your work area.

This combination of factors makes this magnifier ideal not only for those with low vision who might want to use it as a reading magnifier, but also for crafters, coin and stamp collectors, and anyone else who might want to add a little light, and who would benefit from a little magnification of whatever they might want to look at. However, it is designed for right-handers. If you are left-handed, you may find this magnifer uncomfortable to work with.

One of the nicer features of this magnifier is that the handle folds up, flush, to the magnifier, making it perfect for carrying with you in your work bag or brief case. The only drawback is that this magnifier does not come with a carrying pouch or cover. So if you plan on 'taking it with you' you will want to find something to cover the lens so it will not get scratched during transport. In that regard, I like to retask old, cotton socks, into magnifier covers. For those want a designer look, an old argyle sock or one with a picture on it, are ideal. Just wash it, make sure it doesn't have any holes in it, and slip your magnifier into it. Presto, you have a 'fancy' magnifier cover that will help to protect your lens!
