Mr. Popper's Penguins is a charming children's story about the cuddly Mr. Popper who dreams of traveling to the Antartic and living among the Penguins. Mr. Popper's idol is Admiral Drake, to whom he often sends fan letters. One day, in reply, Admiral Drake sends Mr. Popper a real, live, and very active Penguin. In short order, Mr. Popper aquires another penguin, and before he knows what has happened, Mr. Popper finds that he has an entire penguin colony living in his basement!
In this light-hearted tale, we follow Mr. Popper as he turns his basement into a penguin habitat, complete with an ice-skating rink. Mr. Popper's joy is short lived. In quick order he comes to realize that feeding a colony of penguins on fish and shrimp is quite expensive - and he cannot really afford to keep them. What is he to do? Turn his new friends out of his house? Let his own family, including his ten children, starve in order to feed the penguins? My, oh, my!
Children and adults alike will delight in Mr. Popper's solution to this head-scratching dilemma!
Mr. Popper's Penguins is a Newberry Honor Book, and a children's classic that was first published in the 1930's and it is a story that still has the power to remind you that when you put your mind to it - anything is possible! This audio edition of Mr. Popper's Penguins is delightfully read by Nick Sullivan, whose reading, like the book itself, will delight children of all ages, as well as those young at heart.
