Napoleon Bonaparte is an anthology of books related to the history of Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), also known as Napoleon I - Emperor of France. Compiled by Richard Seltzer, this anthology includes the text of twenty-four books. Most of the tiles in this anthology are in English. However, a few are in French, as well, several of these titles are multi-volume works. All of these books are presented in plain text format, and are contained on a single CD. These texts run the gamut from the sixteen volume collection, The Memoirs of Napoleon Bonaparte by Louis Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne (Napoleon's private secretary) to The Second Funeral of Napoleon by William Makepeace Thackeray.
This anthology provides readers with an intriguing glimpse into the life of this influential man who altered the course of European history. These texts are important for helping readers to understand the impact of the French Revolution, the events that propelled Napoleon into a leadership role, why he embarked on a path toward conquest of Europe, and the events that contributed to his downfall. The texts in this collection provide a sweeping overview of the life and times of Napoleon, from his childhood, through his rise to fame and to his ignoble defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. His exiles in Elba and Saint Helena are also covered, as is his death and burials.

This collection of works on Napoleon Bonaparte will serve as an excellent introduction to the life of this prominent ruler, and as a general reference guide to his life and role in world history. This collection also offers visually impaired readers an opportunity to peruse these works in an accessible format. All of the files in this collection are plain text files (ASCII). This means that the files can be readily accessible using computer screen reading and magnification software, and that you can easily change the font size and format to suit your individual needs.
This CD is designed for use with a Windows based PC. You will also need to have a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape) and/or a Windows based word-processing program such as Microsoft Word, or Corel's Word Perfect, in order to read the text.
Included on this CD is a freeware copy of ReadPlease, a text-to-speech software program that will read the text of the books aloud to you. As well as ReadIt, a shareware, dos program, that allows you to bookmark you place within a text and to quickly and easily navigation among the various files on the CD.
