This hardcover, large print, pew edition of the Presbyterian Hymnal is a handsome book. The binding is dark blue and is imprinted with gold lettering, the edges of the pages are stainless (i.e., white). And, the front cover sports a picture of the cross used in the seal of the Presbyterian church. The large print edition of the Presbyterian Hymnal is the same as the stand print edition with the exception that the large print edition does not contain any musical notations.
This hymnal is printed in clear dark print with a 14-point font, and the words are well spaced for easy reading. All together, it contains over 600 hymnal, psalms and various songs, both religious and nonreligious. For example, this hymnal contains various national songs, such as "My Country, 'Tis of Thee." It is easy to locate any work that you are looking for. The contents of the hymnal are indexed by topic and by first lines and common titles. As well, the hymnal itself is organized for easy access.
This hymnal is divided into four sections. The first part follows the Christian Year, and hymns are listed by major events in the church year such as Advent and Lent. The second section is devoted exclusively to psalms. In the third section, the hymns are divided into sections based upon various topics such morning and opening hymns, Holy Scripture, and Thanksgiving Hymns. The fourth and final section of the hymnal contains service music. These are pieces that are commonly used at Sunday morning services.
A nice feature of this hymnal is that it also includes pictorial and written information that alert the reader when the material is derived from a direct biblical reference. The text also includes various aids to worship, such as two English verison each of, The Apostles' Creed, The Nicene Creed, and The Lord's Prayer. The text also includes Spanish and Korean versions of The Apostles' Creed and The Lord's Prayer.
Overall, this is a very nice hymnal that will be a pleasure to use. It is well suited for use in both a church and home setting. As well, the large, clear print will be a boon to many with low vision, and for those that simply prefer to use a book with large than normal print.
