The term 'Romanticism' is often used to refer to various styles of music, fine art, and literature that have romantic tendencies and which advocate for personal freedom unrestrained by social pressures. This style reached its heyday during the 'romantic movement' that gripped Europe starting in the late 1700's and continuing to the middle of the 1800's. During this period, England served as a fertile ground for the development of many talented literary figures. In this one volume CD collection, Richard Seltzer has compiled a selection of works by the universally acknowledged literary masters of this period, namely
William Wordsworth
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Lord Byron (George Gordon Noel Byron)
Percy Bysshe Shelley
John Keats
This collection also includes some general works related to the period, including A History of English Romanticism in the 18th Century by Henry A. Beers and Letters to Dead Authors by Andrew Lang.
All of the works in this collection are presented in plain text files that make them easily accessible to blind and visually impaired readers, as well as fully sighted individuals. This is a computer CD, and you will also need a web-browser or a word processing program in order to read the books. Those using computer screen reading programs will find these texts extremely easy to navigate, something that is not always easy to do when it comes to reading poetry!
The works in this collection deserve a place in both private and public libraries, and are essential reading for both high school and college students, and for all poetry lovers. In fact, if you ever take a college course on English literature of this period, odds are you will need to read many of the books in this collection. In addition to the works of poetry, this collection also includes several biographical works and background information on the above listed poets with the exception of Keats. Best of all, this entire collection, which contains more than 55 books, costs less than most hard covered books.
