Soul Harvest: The World Takes Sides starts out where Nicolae: The Rise of the Antichrist, book three in the Left Behind Series, left off with the Wrath of the Lamb, a massive, global earthquake. Many are dead. Up to a quarter of the worlds population was killed in the earthquake and Chloe and Amanda may have been two of its victims!
Because of the earthquake, many of the parishioners of the New Hope Village Church in Mount Pleasant, Illinois have died, including Loretta and Donny Moore. Moore was the young man who helped set up the computer system in the shelter hidden under the church. A shelter that has become Tsion Ben-Judah's living tomb, one that will become his real tomb if he is not dug out in time. As well, Chloe, who was at home when the earthquake occurred is nowhere to be found, and the house is totally demolished. In his anguish, all Buck Williams, her husband, can think, is that she was crushed when the house collapsed.
For Rayford Steele's part, he cannot find out what happened to his new wife, Amanda. As he searches for her, he stumbles upon some very unsettling information. Amanda has known Nicolae Carpathia far longer than she has known Rayford, and information surfaces that indicates that she may actually have been spying for Carpathia! To make matters more complicated, Hattie Durham, Carpathia's former girlfriend, who happens to be pregnant with his child, has also gone missing. She was supposed to be with Amanda on a plane heading toward New Babylon, but no one is sure if she ever boarded the aircraft. But worse is yet to come. It is reported that the aircraft that Amanda and Hattie where suppose to be on had crashed into the Tigris river and that there were no survivors.
Almost as soon as the earthquake ends, Global Community forces are already rebuilding the shattered world. With utmost efficiency they dispose of the dead, tend the wounded, and find shelter and food for the survivors. The speed in which the world is reconstructed is truly astonishing. And just as the Global Community rebuilds, so too must the Tribulation Force. Tsion quickly becomes the new spiritual leader of the Tribulation Force, and is just as fast garnering a huge internet following. In addition, with the destruction of their church and underground shelter, the Tribulation force needs a new safe house. Miraculously they discover that Donny had built a huge shelter under his house, so the group takes it over, a last gift to the group from Donny.
Events elsewhere are also taking place, the most important being that believers discover that their faith as been sealed on their forehead in the form of a cross that only other believers can see. As well, everyone seems to be taking sides, and soon the followers of the Antichrist will have their faith branded onto their own foreheads. Those who do not take this mark will be hunted down and destroyed. And, another tribulation is fast approaching. This time, one third of all the plants and one third of all the fish on Earth will be destroyed. Furthermore, one third of all the water will become poisoned. As events prove out, the global earthquake was just a precursor to greater horrors yet to come...
