The Your World CD-ROM from B & R Samizdat Express is a treasure trove of information covering world politics, history, geography, current events, and general information about every country in the world. The material contained on this CD was acquired from a variety of sources, including the United Nations (UN) and the North American Treaty Organization (NATO). Also, included is the entire text of the 2001 edition of the CIA World Factbook.

This phenomenal resource will be of great interest to anyone curious about the world around them. The Your World CD is also an extremely valuable resource for students and educators. For the CIA World Factbook alone, it is a 'must have' resource guide for students of all ages. The CIA World Factbook contains over 1200 files which provide detailed information about every country in the world. Countries are listed alphabetically. Each entry includes a general introduction to the country under discussion, plus an overview of the country's geography, people, government, economy, communications, transportation military, and transnational issues. Each entry also includes a map showing the location of the country, and a picture of the country's flag. Individual country pages can be easily printed out by hitting the "Print Data Page" button found at the top of the screen displaying the Factbook.

In addition to the CIA World Factbook, this CD also contains over 2,200 documents from the UN and over 1,200 from NATO. The UN documents include the UN Charter, the text of various security resolutions, and the text of from various annual reports from the years 1992-2002, and a detailed overview of the UN's history. And from NATO, documents are included that range from the NATO Handbook to the complete text of all issues of the NATO Review magazine from 1991-2002. Also included is the NATO Update, a chronology of historical events for the years 1945-2002, complete with brief descriptions of the events. There is so much information contained on this CD that is impossible give you more than a simple taste. Here you will not only find information about September 11th and the security concerns that it raised, but also other current topics including the situation in the middle east and NATO's nuclear readiness, plus articles such as "Is there still a role for nuclear deterrence?" by Walter Slocombe.

In short, Your World is a fascinating reference guide that will be a boon to scholars, as well as for the perpetually curious.

This CD runs on any Windows-based PC, however you do need to have a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Netscape) and/or a Windows based word-processing program such as Microsoft Word, or Corel's Word Perfect, to read the text. For some of the documents, on this CD, you will also need access to an Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded for free, if you do not already have this program. A link to the download site is provided on the CD. For those with difficulty reading standard text, once the text is opened, you can enlarge the font to suit your reading needs. In addition, this CD can be read by most screen reading programs.
